Data analyst with a passion for impact

My name is Glory Gakii Mbiti. I'm based in Kwale County, Kenya, and I hold a Bachelor's degree in Economics. I got into data science because of a simple but powerful realisation — the work I was already doing in HR relied heavily on numbers, and I wanted to get much better at using them.

In my HR and administration role, I worked on things like payroll, hiring processes, and staff engagement. Over time I noticed that small changes, backed by careful analysis, made a real difference. Payroll errors dropped by 17%, hiring took 23% less time, and employee engagement improved by 13%. None of that happened by chance. It happened because I paid attention to the data. That experience made me want to go deeper, so I enrolled in formal data science training.

Since then I have been learning SQL, Python, Power BI, and Excel. I have worked on real projects involving large datasets, built dashboards from scratch, and written queries across databases with over 60,000 records. I am currently looking for a role, internship, or freelance opportunity where I can keep growing and contribute meaningfully.

When I am not working with data, I play handball or listen to music. Both require focus and rhythm, which honestly is not that different from good data work.

The Aqua Ndogo Project

A comprehensive end-to-end investigation into a national water crisis — spanning data exploration, deep analysis, and visual storytelling across three tools.

📊 Excel

Phase 1 · Foundation

Access to Drinking Water — Global Investigation

Investigated global access to safe and affordable drinking water. Created features, summaries, and visualisations to uncover disparities in water access across countries and regions.

🗄️ SQL

Phase 2 · Deep Analysis

Uncovering Aqua Ndogo's Water Crisis

Explored a 60,000-record database using advanced SQL — window functions, multi-table joins, and statistical analysis. Cross-referenced audit data to expose anomalies and classified water sources to guide engineering teams.

📈 Power BI

Phase 3 · Visual Storytelling

Transparency Dashboard — Tracking Water Funds

Built a relational data model and crafted a national survey report in Power BI using DAX. Delivered a public transparency dashboard tracking budget vs actual costs — flagging potential corruption and promoting accountability.

🐍 Python

Phase 4 · Data Engineering

Aqua Ndogo Agriculture — Analysis & Pipeline

Used Pandas to explore Aqua Ndogo's agricultural landscape, uncovering patterns and insights from the dataset. Validated data against external sources for accuracy, then built an automated data pipeline to ingest and clean data at the press of a button.
